On International Peace Day, the United States and all nations should commit themselves to achieving a true, just, permanent and lasting peace, be it neighbors or distant peers and rivals, allies and competitors. The history of the creation of the United Nations indicates the universal desire for increased cooperation and recognition of the rights of man, woman and child, as well as the community of these as a people with commonalities. I disagree with Barack Obama when he says that the UN is not a forum to achieve peace; I think it is a most appropriate forum, and considering the position of the United States on the Palestinian bid for recognition as a nation-state, I am disappointed that there is a lack of sustained commitment to achieving peace. However I continue to support your engagement, and only wish there were a more fierce urgency to achieving peace everywhere.
